Wingpoint ADU: Clever Design in a Compact Space
This Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) showcases how clever design can maximize space and functionality, even within a small footprint. At approximately 700 square feet, the Wingpoint ADU is well under the allowable size for ADUs yet feels surprisingly spacious thanks to its high ceilings and loft area.
Designed for a client with a passion for boating, the ADU incorporates unique nautical elements. The loft features boat netting instead of traditional railings, secured with authentic boating knots and lashings. Economical choices, such as butcher block counters treated with a sustainable, food-grade protectant, demonstrate how budget-friendly materials can be used creatively. Located on a tight, sloping urban lot, this ADU proves that they can be successfully built on challenging sites, turning previously unusable space into a valuable asset. While not explicitly a “sustainable” project beyond its small footprint, it embodies the principles of efficient living and resourceful design.
